Become A Financial Wizard at the 2014 Financial Fitness Fair

wizardFinancial Partnership Teams up with BBB to Offer Secure Your ID/Shred Day

And Help Alaskans Find Ways to Be Smarter With Their Money

Anchorage, AK – You work hard for your money, so why not learn to protect it and be smarter about the way you spend it? All the resources to be wiser with your finances will be at the 2014 Financial Fitness Fair and BBB Secure Your ID/Shred Day at Salvation Army Corps Community Center on Saturday, April 26 from 10 am to 2 pm.

The Financial Partnership Network, a group of state, federal, private and nonprofit organizations that are finding ways to help Anchorage residents increase their income and save for the future, has teamed up with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Alaska to offer one-stop services. Shred your documents securely for free, then come inside the Corps Center for a Financial Fitness Fair. More than 20 vendors will offer information about housing, income taxes, frauds and scams, smarter shopping, retirement planning, saving, investing and more. Free credit reports courtesy of Money Management International and First National Bank will be available. Take the financial fitness survey to see how well you are managing your money, and get suggestions on ways to improve your credit score. Late filers also can get help with filing their federal income taxes.

Hourly workshops will be held on the following topics: wills and estate planning, shopping and saving; landlord/tenant relationships, protecting your identity and finances, credit reports and scores, retirement by design and mobile banking, online banking and fraud protection.

Participate in the Financial Treasure Hunt, then enter to win a door prize. Kids coloring activities and face painting will be offered and we’ll have plenty of free coffee and donuts.

“Our goal is to help Alaskans, many who are living paycheck-to-paycheck, find ways to work toward long-term financial stability,” said United Way of Anchorage President Michele Brown. “Many of the resources people need to start mapping a financial plan will be available at this event.”

Sponsors of this event include United Way of Anchorage, NeighborWorks Anchorage, Money Management International, First National Bank Alaska, BBB Alaska, Shred Alaska, Wells Fargo, KFQD Radio, Alaska Communications, Fred Traber and SteamDot.
